My IP FAQ
It's the address your Internet provider assigns to your connection and that identifies you to the rest of the Internet. All the devices on your network reach the Internet through that same public IP.
An ASN (Autonomous System Number) identifies an operator's network on the Internet. Your IP belongs to an ASN, usually your ISP's, which routes your traffic. For example, AS15169 is Google.
IP geolocation is approximate: it usually gets the country and region right, but the city may correspond to your ISP's node location, not your home. It doesn't use GPS.
It depends on your contract. Many home connections have a dynamic IP (it changes periodically), while servers and businesses usually have a static IP. This tool shows the IP you're browsing with right now.
